A clever excuse?

What is the best excuse you have heard lately?

The best excuse I heard lately came  from someone who was caught lying.

In conversation it went like this: Questioner:

“I was called out for lying, and I  replied, ‘You didn’t tell me I wasn’t  supposed to lie.’ Was I wrong to  answer like that?”

My Response:

“It was witty, but not right.  With that excuse, you lose the  chance for your next lie.”

This shows how excuses can be  clever in form but hollow in  meaning.

They may amuse the listener,  yet they expose the weakness of  avoiding truth.

Excuses may sparkle with wit, but  they weaken the light of truth.
